Consider a Condo When Looking For A Home To Purchase

by Leo Kingston

So you're thinking about buying a home and are considering all of your options. Have you ever given much thought to a condo? Sometimes condos can be a great idea if you are looking for a low maintenance home. Without the lawn care and outdoor repairs that go along with owning a house, this might be just what you need.

Often times senior citizens decide condo style living is a more suitable lifestyle for reasons being when they look for someone trying to sell a home: the community tends to be a little closer, your neighbor is only a skip away incase of emergencies, as well as the elimination of any exterior maintenance. Before you begin your hunt for the perfect home, do a little homework and make sure what you are looking for really is the best option for you after all. Making a list is always a good idea to help with comparing and contrasting the pros and cons of each house type.

Since condo living is much similar to apartment style living, there is a lot less privacy and usually a lot more noise from the neighbors due to the close proximity of each unit, some even sharing the same wall. This can be considered as a pro or a con depending on which way you look at it. For senior citizens it is reassuring to know that you have people all around you incase of an accident, for people who prefer there privacy this can be quite a drawback.

Other things you should be aware of about condo living: there are usually always "association fees" that are affiliated with the condo. These fees generally cover the cost of any exterior work that needs to be done including: damage from storms, hail, snow, lawn care and trash pick up. One of the drawbacks with condominiums is the lack of freedom you have to make upgrades and renovations to the interior without approval from the board members.

If you were looking forward to landscaping your front and back yard, having a garden, and planting trees, look no further into condos; this is not the option for you. Some may find this as a bit of a relief, others may not get passed this restriction. Another thing to point out with condos, some are very accepting of pets while others intolerable, make sure if you have animals to pay close attention to the weight limits and amount of pets per unit.

Ultimately the decision on whether to purchase a house or a condo relies heavily on the buyers' individual needs. Are you looking for something a little more private, with the opportunity to make renovations to the exterior, or would you prefer a less private place with more neighbors around with less maintenance to keep up with? Also, will you be selling this home in the future; is this something that may increase in value over time? Consider all of these options before making the big purchase, and talk to people who have experience with both living styles, you'll find plenty of helpful information by asking around or searching on the internet.
