Moving to NYC with Pets

by Laura Hawn

I searched and searched through apartments in the NYC area for one that would accept my two cats. It seemed like I wasn't ever going to find one! Apartment after apartment said "NO PETS!" and this left me with a dilemma. I was not going to move without my cats, they are part of my family!

So finally I asked for help. I've got many pals in New York City, and a couple of them have pets. So I asked them if their apartment buildings had any flats available. Unfortunately, they did not; but my friends knew just what to look for so as to find a place that would accept pets. So they helped me look until I found one.

Eventually, I had found the ideal spot for me and my two cats. The pet deposit and pet lease were a bit high, but I was willing to pay any price to be able to keep my cats with me. After I'd found the perfect apartment, I just had to find some NYC movers to get me and my cats and my stuff there safely.

I opened up my laptop computer and did a search for "movers NYC," to try and find a good moving company to help me out. I wanted to find one that was not particularly expensive and had a place to store some of my stuff, too. There was no way all the furniture from my three thousand square foot house was going to fit in my nine hundred square foot flat. Luckily, I found one very quickly. I got a guess right online, and then had them come out the day after.

They were extraordinarily professional! My cats were running around crazy till I could catch them, and the movers were able to walk around them and not step on them or hurt them while they were working. Once the cats were out of the way, the movers said that they could put them in the front of the moving truck with me if I wanted, which I did. I was very happy with the moving company; they didn't damage any of my things, they knew that my cats were like family to me, and they got me moved into my new place awfully fast, putting the extra stuff neatly in storage. If I want to move again, I will use them, no doubt in my mind.
